MeDirect is a fully licensed Maltese credit institution, regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and supervised by the European Central Bank (ECB).

MeDirect was established in June 2004 and within a year became a fully licensed Maltese credit institution, regulated by the MFSA. In July 2009, MeDirect was acquired by new shareholders, a fund managed by AnaCap Financial Partners, a UK private equity firm, and was recapitalised. In September 2014, MeDirect bought Volksbank Malta Limited, a subsidiary of Volksbank Austria providing banking services to the Maltese retail and corporate sectors and renamed it Mediterranean Corporate Bank Limited. In 2017, the activities of Mediterranean Corporate Bank were merged with MeDirect’s existing corporate banking services. Additionally, in 2010, the holding company of MeDirect completed the acquisition of 65% of Charts Investment Management Service, a local investment services company, thus strengthening its footprint in the Maltese financial market.  The balance of Charts was purchased in 2015. In 2025, the bank’s holding company, MDB Group Limited, was acquired by Banka CREDITAS, a privately owned Czech bank. Banka CREDITAS is part of CREDITAS Group which, in addition to financial services, has significant interests in real estate and energy. Today, MeDirect employs approximately 350 people across the Group and is actively developing a world-class technology platform in Malta to support its pan-European operations in Malta, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The ultimate shareholders of MeDirect are Banka CREDITAS, which is part of CREDITAS Group. CREDITAS Group is a privately owned Czech investment group owned by the Hubáček family.
