MeDirect Malta recently presented a donation to Dar Hosea, which aims to support women who are, or are at risk of becoming, victims of prostitution. In offering this support to victims of prostitution, Dar Hosea provides many services. These include immediate practical help such as food, shelter and a place to rest, as well as more long-term support including counselling and education.
Emma Zahra, Human Resources Business Partner at MeDirect said, “Dar Hosea reaches vulnerable women who are exploited into prostitution, helping them to rebuild their lives and become empowered. Through this donation MeDirect is not only making a direct contribution to supporting Dar Hosea’s great work but also helping to raise awareness of this issue which has a detrimental effect on all of society.”
Sr Natalie Abela, Delegate Superior of the Sisters of Charity in Malta, who run Dar Hosea, said, “Childhood sexual exploitation, physical abuse and emotional neglect are among the key factors that lead to prostitution and it’s a sad fact that most of those who become prostitutes do so in early adolescence. Helping women, from all backgrounds, who have been through such exploitative experiences, to rebuild their self-esteem and start a new life is not easy but thanks to all our professionals, volunteers and supporters, including MeDirect, we are making a real difference.”
