Today, 14th June marks World Blood Donor Day – a day aimed to raise global awareness about the need for safe blood, as well as, the critical importance of voluntary blood donors. MeDirect retains its’ yearly commitment towards the Blood Donation Unit by contributing several pens that will be given as a token of appreciation to those who voluntarily donate blood.
The pens donated to the Blood Donation Unit, which are anti-bacterial, have this year’s global theme printed on them – “Give blood and keep the world-beating”. World Health Organisation chose this slogan to highlight how essential blood donation is to keep the world pulsating and saving lives. Sometimes the lack of blood donation hinders the opportunity of doing this.
MeDirect understands how vital blood donation is and has encouraged its’ employees to donate blood during the month of June – a way of showing solidarity and helping the community. Due to the current situation, MeDirect could not organise the customary Blood Drive at the office. Instead, employees were encouraged to book an appointment with the Blood Bank during working hours without taking any leave.
Citing Dr. Aquilina, Director of Blood Transfusion Service in Malta – ‘To all these donors I sincerely thank them. They have saved and are saving lives daily. To those who may donate but are not donors, please, there are children, mothers and fathers, elderly people who need your donation.’
If you would like to learn more about the National Blood Transfusion Service and how you can become a donor, you can visit their Facebook page or website. MeDirect would like to thank all its employees who frequently donate blood and encourage everyone to join this selfless cause.
“Give blood and keep the world beating.”
